신나는 팝송 더 패신저. 원곡 The Passenger는 가수 Iggy Pop이 1977년 발표한 노래다. 이기 팝(Iggy Pop)은 미국의 음악가, 가수, 작사가 겸 음반 프로듀서다. 펑크의 대부로 칭송받고 있는 전설적인 인물이자, 다양한 장르의 뮤지션에게 중대한 영향을 미친 인물이라고 한다. 

 

이기 팝(Iggy Pop)의 더 패신저(The Paseenger)는 베를린에서 S-Bahn(도시철도)에 탑승한 이기 팝이 직접 썼다. 여행을 다니면서 영감을 받고 쓴 곡이다. 가사에도 자유로움이 한껏 묻어난다. 신나는 팝송 더 패신저는 전 세계의 수많은 비디오 게임, 영화, TV쇼에서 사용되어왔다.

본문에 소개하고 링크한 곡은 원곡이 아닌 영국의 록밴드 '수지 앤 더 밴시스'의 버전이다. 수지 앤더 밴시스는 1976년 런던에서 결성된 록밴드다. 뉴웨이브, 신스팝, 얼터너티브 록 등 다양한 장르로 활동하며 폭넓은 아티스트들에게 영향을 준 명성 높은 록밴드다. 타임스는 그들을 가리켜 '펑크 록 시대에서 가장 대담하고 단호한 모험가들'이라고 평했다.

 

그들이 1987년 발매한 커버 앨범에 The Passeger가 수록되어 있다. 원곡에 브라스를 추가하여 흥겨움을 더했다. 훗날 인터뷰에서 이기 팝이 그들의 커버 버전을 칭찬하기도 했다.
